Next to the spoorzone, near the center of Delft in an area that flourishes from a small-scale business park into a vibrant living/working area, the proud apartment building Mercury has arisen. The complex is part of the broad urban development plans and is one of the first buildings of this development. In alignment with the stated needs of Delft's ‘WoonVisie’ building flexibility is the main pillar behind the architectural function.
Mercury consists of low structured building of six stages on the industrieweg, and an eight layered high structured building on the Mercuriusweg. De high structured building is set up on its feet and perpendicular to the road, whereby space is created for a huge glass entrance.
Mercury is erected from warm red building bricks and stands on a double high plinth from dark coloured natural stone. The level of finishing is from an extreme high quality, as the corridors and the rental houses themselves. In total the project accommodates 71 apartments of different sizes, including four studio residences at ground level.
Working youngsters and recent graduates who are about to start their career, whether or not they’re single or cohabitants belong to the major target group.
