Together with Care provider Zorgwaard, housing corporation HW Wonen and Van Mierlo Development we designed a new concept. Not to make an institution in a big building, but to create a caring environment inside a small village.
Rembrandt is divided into a care building and a residential building. Both buildings embrace a central square where most of the entrances are located. In the residential building, in the middle of a green, watery park, there are 73 self-contained apartments, organized around wide inner streets with winter gardens. The care building encloses an inner garden and offers space to a broad target group of people in need, ranging from psychogeriatric to somatic patients, and from light care to rehabilitation.
Rembrandt is not an institution, it looks like a village neighborhood with characteristic street facades. The contiguous pawn architecture with longitudinal gables and heads ensures a beautiful rhythm and regularity. The orientation is omnidirectional and the use of materials is traditional, with masonry and ceramic roof tiles. The chosen bricks copy the color tones of the neighborhood. The balconies and outdoor areas are also part of the architecture. At the pedestrian level, this is reflected in small-scale village transitions, from facade to garden, from footpath to park. Thanks to the beautiful, green attachment to the surrounding neighborhood, we have been able to achieve maximum quality of stay.
