A parking garage is characterized by its open construction of columns, floors and ramps. A hardwarestore like Gamma is actually nothing more than a closed box with one entrance. The design assignment consisted of combining these building definitions into aconvincing symbiosis.

In the design, the parking garage is supported by a column construction, in which the direction of floors and slopes is emphasized with oblique columns. The balustrades of the floors and ramps are draped around the building like illuminated “wraps” andare continued up to the entrance to the parking garage. Subsequently, the hardware store was slid between and under the construction like a metallic construction kit. This creates a convincing architectural image in which both building functions remain visible, but also form one dynamic building. The“wraps” are curved expanded metal plates with multi-coloured LED technology,which makes color theming possible. When Feyenoord scores a goal, the building can cheer with red and white flickering.

The light artwork is connected to the light artworks from the Erasmusbrug, Hofplein-fountain and Euromast and colours with the city-themes like Kingsday or Pink Saturday.
