Seaview was once an office building. Today, it stands as an iconic hotel. Not just a transformation, but an architectural tribute to history and a leap into the future. As SYNRG, we designed this transformation, drawing inspiration from the former Hotel van den Abeelen, which stood on this site in the early 20th century. This grand hotel was damaged by fire in 1975 and eventually demolished. With Seaview, we are bringing back its lost grandeur to Scheveningen—but in a modern, future-proof way.

Restoring the city's Grandeur.

To achieve this vision, we madeoptimal use of the existing building. By circularly reusing the existingstructure, we reduced CO₂ emissions by approximately 40% compared to new construction. Additionally, Seaview is fully electric, with no gas connection, andgenerates its own energy through solar panels.

Designed by SYNRG: A Future-ProofVision

At SYNRG, we designed Seaview according to the vision of our client, Re:Born, who strives forarchitecture that is Cherished, Sustainable, and Dynamic. With this framework, we created a design that fully aligns with their ambitions.

To achieve Cherishability, we reimagined Seaview as a modern interpretation of the old hotel. Not a replica, but a contemporary translation that embodies both character and history.

Sustainability is deeply embedded in our design choices. We preserved and repurposed as much of the existing structure as possible. The former exterior spiralstaircase? It now serves as the central escape stairwell. The façade? Completely removable, thanks to Aberson’s innovative A-brick system. Even the roof edges are prefabricated and detachable. This building is designed not only for today but also for the future.

And then, there’s Dynamism: Seaview is more than just a hotel. Today, it houses 69 hotel rooms, but tomorrow, it could betransformed into 35 apartments or office spaces—without major renovations. Thanks to our flexible design, the installations and layouts are alreadyprepared for this transition.

The transformation is now complete, and Seaview has been delivered. The construction, carried out by MeerbouwRotterdam, is finished, and Hotel Numa has transformed the buildinginto a stylish and future-proof hotel. As SYNRG, we are proud of this architectural transformation that seamlessly blends heritage, sustainability, and adaptability.
